Garden Affair : Insulin plant

                          Insulin plant aka Costus igneus is a perennial plant that is believed to be useful for the diabetic person as there has been research done that it can help in decreasing sugar level in body when leaves are consumed for a  specific time period . 

                                                    

The flowers of insulin plant are very attractive and comes in tubular shape . The flowers appear upon the crown of leaves . They bloom in the morning and fades away till the end of day.

Garden Affair : spider plant

     Spider plant aka chlorophytum  is one of the popular houseplant grown in almost every climatic region due to its hardy  nature and as  it is a  low maintenance plant. 

                                                    

Growing and care of Spider plant                                                                                                         

Spider plant is a low maintenance plant that can be grown in indoors easily. It has shallow roots which leads to growing plans in small containers which is advantageous to grow plant in a small spaces in our home. It doesn't require much care but protecting it from direct sunlight and in a moist environment helps in longevity of plant.

Spider plant is a great air purifier for home as it helps in consuming carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen for exchange in the home environment thereby cleaning and purifying home by removing chemicals present in the air.

Spider plant can be easily grown from propagation from its offshoots. Spider plant grows well from the offshoots obtained from its parent plant that can be used to make a complete new plant.

Garden Affair : Monsoon extended this year

 Its raining which is quite unpredictable for this time of the year. The weather has cooled down after rains from past week and blooms are back into the garden.

Garden Affair : Rabbit Ears

 Monsoon brings transition in  garden after long summer period when garden lose its glory, the arrival of blooms on annuals and perennials after rains bring back the color in garden. 

Rabbit ear plant also known as Ruttya fruticosa is a joy to watch blooming after monsoon rains. 

                                                         

It is a perennial plant that grows in a semi hardy plant and blooms from  monsoon to Autumn season. The plant requires little care , pruning in periods can help in obtaining more blooms from the plan in the blooming season.                                                                                             

Why it is called Rabbit ears plant                                                                                                            

                                                                                           

                  The blooms are forming into two tubular structure that resemble Rabbit with a head and two ears. These flowers are favorite among Hummingbirds and bees as they are attracting them due to their nectar.

Monsoon revival

 It has been unusual monsoon season where intensity of downpour has been observed more before the actual monsoon season i.e. pre monsoon an now the unexpected revival of rains   post monsoon is  surprising and alarming about the effect of climate change.

Garden Affair : Wishbone blooming season

                                                This year  Monsoon was unpredictable with rains coming to and fro and now when the time for bid adieu to monsoon its revival for a certain period is unanticipated . 

Wishbone flower or popularly known as Torenia is a monsoon season delight with its intrinsic flower blooming in cluster grabbing attention of bees to earthling. 

                                                                             

Why is Torenia called Wishone flower                                                                                              

It cames from the fact the stamens of the flower joins together in a formation that resembles the wishbone of birds.    These are annual plants that grow well in rainy season .                                                                                                                          

                                                     

Growing period and care 

Torenia is grown from seeds which are sown in late summer ,it requires well fertilized soil for good growth which need to be well drained soil . The wishbone plant grows easily without much hassle and can be grown in hanging pots or baskets as they grow in bushy form.

Garden Affair : Roses are back

 Monsoon season is on a verge to take bid adieu and while there is long await for winter from now , I am  glad Roses are back  in to blooms . 

                                  I suppose all great happiness is a little sad. Beauty means the scent of roses, and the death of roses.

Roses grow well in every climatic conditions which is not hot and arid . Roses performs well when pruned periodically and fed fertilizer in a period of three to four months.
