Garden Affair : Phalsa Fruit plant

While  Summer  season  bestows us with plethora of fruit varieties in the season ,I personally feel there is one underrated fruit which is delicious and only available for a short span of time in summer, Its phalsa fruit also known as Grewia Asiatica 

A tiny delicious fruit that grows in abundance on a  semi perennial shrub. The fruit has a mix flavor of tangy sweetness. 

                                            

        I had been growing this hardy plant in my garden for years now in my Garden and fortunately it bestows us with harvest in every  summer period .                                

                   Phalsa aka Grewia Asiatica  Is packed with medicinal benefits of   cooling body in summer,controlling and managing digestive disorders,respiratory issues .

Summer season has arrived

 The first fortnight of April ended with a relatively cooler atmosphere contrary  to what we expect every year by the start of summer. The silver lining being enjoying spring blooms till the April. 

                                              Spring and summer blooms are in symphony   

I didn't remember when  was the last time I saw Antirrhinums blooming till April month in my garden . 

                                                                                 

Summer season brings back the splash of colors of Adenium blooms that brings back the vibrant energy in my Garden.

Tailor bird have become common sighting in my Garden in these days. 

Garden affair : How my garden is thriving through Heat waves

Summer is dreadful this may with temperatures soaring high to 45 degrees c. The consistent heatwaves from last week has halted daily errands . The Garden is suffering a sweltering heat this time where it becomes strenuous task to step outside in day time. 

Although it is a tedious task to protect plants and make them survive through intense hot summer with concurrent heatwaves. My Garden is withstanding this intense weather with some of the techniques that  I had applied to protect plants from summer Heatwaves and are also helpful for everyone who experience above average temperatures in their Garden .

Watering 

                Watering plants before sunrise is the key to deprive plants from loss of irrigation or wilting due to loss of water as the watering at dawn time helps in absorption of water by the roots of plants completely.                                                        

 Mulching pots 

The most  adversely  affected plants in heatwaves are potted plants as the soil level in these plants is lesser than plants growing in beds and ground. Mulching with dried leaves and  flowers on the surface of  potted plants helps in fastening  moisture to the roots of plants which helps them surviving extreme summer weather and thereby protecting  them from drying out from summer heatwaves.

                                                                          

                                                       

   Providing shade through Green net

Green cloth net is a very effective way to protect plants from harmful sun rays in summertime as they act as a filter upon plants to protect them from the reach of direct  sunlight . Green cloth net acts as a safeguard for the plants from harmful direct sunlight.  

                                                                                     

                                                           Creating moisture in plants 

Placing plants in a water container is the best possible method  for self watering plants and creating  a moisture environment around  the pot. Placing plants in water filled container helps them to retain water for longer period that helps in moisture retention for whole day.                                                                      

Misting plant leaves Daily 

  Misting water upon the leaves of plants in the morning locks moisture on them that safeguards them from burning due to intense heatwaves.

Temperate Summer

Summer season which was started with consistent heat waves in the month of April was then subsided with weather change owing to  concurrent rains in the starting of May that brought down temperature which aided the blooms .

 The succession of spring weather after a set of western disturbances from last fortnight impeded the arrival of heat wave of summer until now.  The summer season has  officially begun now after rise in temperatures and start of heat waves simultaneously.

 Summers have officially started in my region. The transition from spring to summer is time when the  summer perennials emerge  out of hibernation. Desert Rose or Adenium obesum is one of the most hardy perennial that blooms in summer and blooms remain for most part of the summer season.

Awaiting for monsoon

         The horrific  summer is at its end , if the weather report is believed we could see rains in anytime  the next two weeks. Meanwhile Texas Sage is blooming profusely in hot summer   days.

Garden Affair : Jasmine the summer survivor

The Summer is breaking every past record with day  temperature hovering above 45 degree Celsius . The ongoing heat wave has made it difficult to step outside and much alike it is becoming tedious to protect Garden from horrendous heat wave . 

                     While it is becoming impossible with rising temperature to take care of plants in these hot  summer days,  I am glad that Jasmine varieties are continuous blooming in spite of horrendous heat wave and thereby surviving  the worst of summer .

Jasmine plant is a hardy plant that survives drought and up to an extent severe winter and summer . They give more  blooms when hard pruning is given in spring season. Garden Affair : Cosmos

 Monsoon is in the last stage in our region, the summer flowers are in full blooming period after rains have halted from last fortnight. Cosmos is one of the best summer blooming annual that is grown for its  long blooming period for the most part of the year.

Cosmos plant is easy to grow plant with seeds and it blooms for a long period up to Autumn . The flowers color ranges from yellow, orange to pink and red . 

Cosmos seeds can be sown in the starting of Summer and flowering starts within six to eight weeks of sowing of seeds, it doesn't need much fertilizer for proper growth.                         

                                                                          

The bright colors of cosmos are a must spectacle for summer garden when scorching weather takes away the color of garden.

Garden Affair : Protecting plants from Summer heat

 Summer is intensifying with every day  passing by summer heat is soaring with rise in  high temperatures. 

It becomes difficult to protect Plants from heat wave and scorching summer period. While drought resistant plants can withstand this heat it is imperative to protect plants from direct sunlight and strong heat waves . 

Here are few important steps one should take to protect plants from direct exposure of heat from summer

          -    Green     Shades for plants                             

Creating a dome like environment through green shade helps in protecting plants from summer heat. Green shades help in saving plants from direct exposure of sunrays.                                                   

- Adding light mulch onto the soil helps in maintaining moisture in the soil for longer period of time which keeps plant cool and  soil wet for longer period that helps from harsh summer.      

       

                                   - Watering plants in the morning helps them in retaining moisture for whole day and thereby save plants from drying out in the summer .
