Garden Affair : Cockscomb

It has become pleasant weather after a spell of monsoon rains  . My Garden is back with blooms on perennial and annual plants. Cockscomb or celosia is one of the most unique flowering annual in my garden owing to its unique shape of florets.

Cockscomb is easy to grow from seeds and its inflorescence lasts for weeks . It is advisable to feed it with fertilizer once in 15 days for better growth. Cockscomb plant loves full sun and it is my experience that the inflorescence shines with bright colors when give sunlight for more than 6 hours.                   

                                                                                                  

It is interesting to know that Cockscomb has derived its name from the comb on the head of the rooster as it can be seen in the below picture the resemblance of comb on the head of the rooster with the cockscomb blooms.

Garden Affair : Ruellia

 Monsoon has made the weather pleasant and all the plants are back with the blooms . Ruellia also known as Desert petunia is a hardy perennial that blooms throughout the year except in the colder months.

Ruellia is a hardy plant and can withstand high temperatures . It would grow and spread in  a large area through dispersion of seeds. It would be advisable to fertilize it  twice in a year is enough for its growth and blooms.It is also known as desert petunia owing to its blooms alike Petunias.

Garden Affair : Rain Lilies

        Monsoon is in full swing in my region. The plants are reviving with constant rain after hot and humid summer weather  .   Rain Lilies are constant to the Monsoon Rains . Hedges are integral part of any Garden. While hedge are natural planting besides the wall that provides protection against winds , privacy, create a wildlife habitat in your garden.  Hedges which are created using  Flowering plants can actually add grace to the garden .
