Garden Affair : Terrarium

Terrarium is a  glass container either sealed or open  where plants are grown inside a glass container and kept indoors for decoration purposes.

How to start with making a terrarium :

. Firstly we have to choose a container according to your will and requirement of making  a terrarium.    It could be anything like a round fish glass container , an old fashioned glass container .

A round glass container for terrarium

, Now we have to gather material like sedimentary rocks, charcoal and brick stones which will be placed at the bottom of glass container as a base for terrarium. This will help in maintaining moisture in container.

Next step will be spreading river sand as a next layer over the sedimentary rocks which will help in excess drainage of water .

And the final layer of potting soil which will be used for growing plants.

Now plants selection depends on the size of your container and also depends where are you planning to keep the terrarium, for instance a place which receives sunlight or place of shade.

I  have chosen  a set of plants like Aralia, nerve plant, baby's breath plant

Now Add the decorative figurines according to theme of your terrarium. I have used Lord Ganesha statue and some bird figurines and here is the final glimpse of my Lord Ganesha terrarium.

Lord Ganesha writing holy books by the river side in  a forest.

Maintenance of Terrarium :
Terrarium should be watered carefully with light pressure  of water and plants used should be pruned periodically depending upon the requirement.

It is the time for link up party Garden Affair where you can share posts related to gardening, Nature and birds. 1. Thanks for the tutorial - always wanted a terrarium, but never found the right size of glass container - they are here (USA) so small!

  2. You have designed a beautiful terrarium for your plants. How nice that you put a Lord Ganesha statue in your terrarium. Ganesha and Krishna are my favorite gods from the great world of Indian gods... A small Ganesha statue that we brought home from our Rajasthan trip "guards" our entrance area. But I think he would love such a terrarium.
    Happy weekend!
