Garden Affair : Warm spring and absence of bees

This year would be remembered as one of the warmest spring in the decades. The spring annuals are already withering with rising temperature which has also affected  the ecological balance as the adverse effect can be seen with the absence of butterflies and bees from spring garden.

These are the few glimpses from spring from past years when bees and butterflies were spotted hovering over the flowers.

We had reached almost at the end of spring season this year with rising temperatures and presence of bees and butterflies is almost negligible this spring. The possible reasons of vanishing of spring is still  uncertain  to me but the warmer and shorter winter period that induced  warmer spring season     could be one of the reasons for their non survival till spring season.
The presence of bees and butterflies in spring is prominent as they are pollinators to ensure production of seeds, fruits and flowers vital to maintain ecological balance. I had already discussed the vitality of presence of bees and bugs in  Importance of bees and ladybugs in garden   post.

It is the time for link up party Garden affair where we can share posts related with Gardening, Nature and birds. The link up party will be open for a week.

Warm spring

The soaring temperature in the mid spring season is alarming with fear of Global warming and unprecedented climate change now becoming a  reality.

The raising temperature had affected my Garden as  well as early summer blooms are already blooming along with spring flowers.

Petunias are blooming aside summer bloomers Vinca and Plumbago in spring is not we see every year.

I have always felt growing Single flowered Dahlia is more rewarding than  Giant Dahlias

The unusual rise in temperatures in spring has affected spring blooming annuals in  adverse manner

Buttercup and other bulbous blooms are out of shape due to sharp rise in temperatures

Meanwhile Garden is busting with colors of spring , Although the current changes in climate change scenario is indicating towards shorter period of spring season in coming years.

Summers are already around the corner poor Stilts have to travel in city for  quenching of water

Garden Affair : Growing Edible Flowering plants for upcoming spring season

Where spring seems far and dubious with uncertainty of winter weather some of the spring flowers that are appreciated for adding vibrant colors in spring season after the end of long dreary winter season are also surprisingly edible by nature . While there are innumerable spring annuals that can be added as an ingredient or placed as garnishing  on food these below are most popular ones that are rewarding to grow for  spring show.

     Violas

Nasturtium

Marigolds and Calendulas

Dianthus

Roses

These are one of the popular spring annuals grown for dual purpose of adding colors to the spring garden and also adding flavor to your favorite cuisine. These are added in salads, used in  preparing jams, used in breads and added to change color of  food in many cuisines.

Garden Affair : Winter Days and Garden

Winter has been unpredictable this year with very warm December  and contradictory January starting on a note with hard hitting cold wave . Now when we are into the second fortnight of January temperature has risen and few of the early spring annuals are already showing up blooms. The talks regarding Global warming seems becoming reality.

I would had never expected Schzianthus blooming in January

Petunias are already in full  bloom in January this year

Snapdragons blooming in January is surprising

If the present  weather  condition will persist Spring  season seems to be coming early this year.
On that note This is the time for link up party Garden Affair where you can share posts regarding Gardening, Nature and birds. The link up party will be open for a week.
