This year summer was very harsh , the constant heat waves made it strenuous task to take care of Garden . The temperature above 45 degree Celsius and concurrent heat waves made it unattainable task to get summer harvest . My prime concern was to protect plants from wilting by heat waves. It was astonishing that somehow with few measures taken by my side and with the grace of Nature God my Garden bestowed me with summer Harvest.
Tips that help me grow vegetables in Harsh summer in my Garden
- Keeping vegetables plants in shade away from direct sunlight ;
- Mulching plants with dried leaves and flowers to retain moisture;
- Watering before sunrise so the roots absorb water and stay hydrated for the day ;
- Misting upon leaves in morning to protect them from heat waves throughout day ;
- Adding cold manure once a month in plants .

ReplyDeleteThose are such good tips! We're having a heat wave this weekend and I'm worried about my veggies, especially my beans.
ReplyDeleteYou do better than me all year round!! Tho I just panted ice plants again for my third attempt. Wish me well!
ReplyDeleteThese temperatures are really strange - and great work to let your vegetables grow.

Dear Arun,
ReplyDeleteThese are truly valuable tips and I'm happy that you could manage to grow all those delicious plants: 🍅🌶️🍆 In Central Europe we’re lucky that it’s not quite as hot yet, but temperatures are increasingly climbing to levels that aren’t ideal for vegetables either.
We have an irrigation system in place that waters the different areas of our garden in the early morning hours, controlled by a computer. I’ve also mulched my vegetable plants this year (just tomatoes, lettuce, herbs, and Jerusalem artichokes – sadly, the zucchini plant didn’t survive the fluctuating temperatures and a hungry springtime snail attack... ).
I had never heard of cold manure before – thank you for mentioning it! Could you please explain what it is? I'm always happy to learn new things from fellow gardeners.
All the best from Austria 🌿
